Russian woodpecker array

One of four photos taken of the massive Soviet
cold war early warning system. This antenna was
used to detect ballistic missiles by bouncing radio
waves off of the missile. Radar in effect but at high
frequency instead of UHF. This system used to
disrupt all forms of shortwave transmissions from
Amateur Radio to international broadcasts to
military from 1976 to 1989. It’s signal could be heard
from anywhere on earth. It is called the Duga-3 system.
God, I wish I could hook up my FT-817 to this puppy
for a little while.
